LEASE advice scheme seeks support from ALEP members

More than a year after announcing its partnership with the Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE) to support the provision of an 'out of hours' call back service to LEASE enquiries, ALEP has confirmed that further opportunities to become involved with the scheme are available to its members.

Mark Chick, ALEP director, partner at Bishop & Sewell and LEASE scheme participant, updated delegates with the scheme’s progress at the ALEP Spring Conference, held recently at The Royal College of Surgeons. As a result, representatives from five member firms have joined the five already supporting the programme.

The scheme, which has proven successful since its launch, sees volunteers from ALEP member firms providing telephone advice on enfranchisement matters on a pro-bono basis. The out of hours calls are arranged for those who have enquired to LEASE, and who would not otherwise be able to make a telephone appointment in the daytime.

The calls take place between 6-7.30pm on weekday evenings (currently Tuesdays and Thursdays) and have to be booked by a member of the public enquiring directly through LEASE.

The ALEP members currently participating in the LEASE scheme are:
Bishop & Sewell LLP, Seddons, TJM Law, SA Law and Sykes Anderson

Members wishing to join or find out more about the scheme should email info@alep.org.uk in the first instance.

About LEASE

LEASE is a government funded external body that provides initial advice to the public on leasehold issues and which was set up after the Leasehold Reform Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 came into force to promote awareness of the leasehold reform legislation. Today, LEASE provides initial 'signposting' advice in relation to leasehold issues generally including, service charges, the right to manage and enfranchisement matters.
