The Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners (ALEP) supports the government’s intention to reform leasehold. We welcomed the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act (LAFRA) and we understand why ministers are now looking to move forward with a future Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Bill, as announced in the 2024 King’s Speech.
ALEP believes that Commonhold has the potential to be both workable and attractive. However, we also feel that the practical aspects of its implementation need more attention. The purpose of this paper is not to defend leasehold but to provide professional insight which we hope will support the success of future reform.
