Property professionals in Manchester will have the chance to broaden their knowledge of the UK’s leasehold system at a free to attend event presented by the Association of Leasehold Property Enfranchisement Practitioners (ALEP), and hosted by law firm, Irwin Mitchell

This is the first regional event ALEP has presented, and the Association plans to roll out a programme of regional seminars throughout 2019. This event will be held on Wednesday 7thNovember 2018 at the offices of Irwin Mitchell at One St Peter’s Square, Manchester, between 2PM and 5PM, followed by a drinks reception and networking.

Leasehold is currently a much-debated topic and high on the political agenda. At this event, enfranchisement experts will be providing invaluable insights into this niche sector, latest case law and an update on the Government and Law Commission’s ongoing consultations on potential reform and its implications for those operating in the sector and wider industry.

This half-day seminar is aimed at professionals with an interest in residential property and is highly recommended for enfranchisement solicitors and valuation specialists, as well as estate and letting agents, managing agents and conveyancing solicitors.

Jeremy Raj and Chris Baker, both partners at Irwin Mitchell will be hosting the event, and speakers will deliver presentations on a variety of topics pertinent to the sector.

Leigh Shapiro, Partner at Irwin Mitchell and expert in all aspects of residential leasehold law, will provide an update on the Law Commission’s work on enfranchisement and reform, its likely impact on leaseholders and those working in the property industry. She will also deliver an update on the consultation process and raise questions to provoke debate and discussion.

Mark Loveday, Barrister at Tanfield Chambers will present his insight into recent cases affecting the leasehold sector, and Mike Tibbatts, Valuer and ALEP Executive Committee member will consider the role of the solicitor and valuer in enfranchisement.

Anna Bailey, ALEP’s Director and Co-Founder, said: “The North West has a high number of leasehold properties and it is imperative that property professionals operating in the area have a firm grip of leasehold law, which can be very complex. The Association has recently welcomed several new members from Manchester and the surrounding areas, so it made sense to deliver our first regional event here.

“ALEP promotes education and we aim to help professionals in this sector develop the skills needed to tackle the intricacies of leasehold enfranchisement. This event will enable professionals in Manchester – and the wider north west area – to expand their expertise and get to know more about our Association.”
