ALEP’s Spring Conference 2015 took place on Tuesday 24 March at The Royal Institution in Mayfair. A record 265 delegates attended the event, which was hosted by ALEP’s Honorary President, Damian Greenish of Pemberton Greenish, and sponsored once again by Kerry London Insurance.

Senior representatives from LEASE, ARMA, NAEA, ARLA and IRPM also attended the conference, further strengthening ALEP’s ties in the sector and evidence of its commitment to collaboration and partnership.
Professor James Driscoll made his debut at an ALEP event and spoke knowledgably on Right To Manage as an alternative to enfranchisement. Mark Chick, ALEP Director and Partner, Bishop & Sewell, then provided legal commentary to an excellent presentation by Jennifer Ellis of Langley Taylor. The presentation, entitled ‘The Middleman’s Tale’ looked at the importance, role and standing of those owning intermediate leases and how they are compensated when their interests are diminished. The opportunity to debate with Jennifer, one of the sector’s leading figures, proved a draw and lively debate ensued.
Anna Favre, Partner at Pemberton Greenish, took to the stage after tea to present relevant case law on excluded premises in collective claims. A popular speaker, Anna took delegates through the minefield of measuring non-residential areas under the 1993 Act, closing with an entertaining test of delegates’ knowledge.
Barrister Anthony Radevsky also kept delegates on their toes, setting a problem to solve as part of the traditional ALEP case update.
