All at the 6th annual ALEP Golf Day, which was once again sponsored by insurance brokers, Kerry London, had an enjoyable day at Bushey Hall, Herts.

Sunshine flooded the course and temperatures had risen to the early 20s by lunchtime. After bacon rolls and coffee, our 12 golfers headed onto the undulating course, leaving the day’s nervous novices in the capable hands of Bushey’s Golf Pro, Chris Drane. After some fun warm-up exercises, the novices spent two hours mastering the golf swing and getting to grips with putting and chipping on the practice green. A rather competitive Tom Russo of Kerry London turned up with his own clubs and, it transpired, had managed to get in a little practice before the big day!
After a quick refreshment break the novices set off for the greens in a fleet of buggies, which proved to be the highlight of the day for some. The novices enjoyed a great afternoon thanks to a patient coach, beautiful weather and a great atmosphere between players.

While the novices were having fun, our more serious golfers were tackling Bushey Hall’s challenging greens with aplomb. Andrew Raby of Thackray Williams, who has twice won the prestigious ALEP winner’s cup, scored a hat trick and was again presented with the ALEP Winner’s cup and a bottle of champagne, having racked up a Stableford score of 31. For the second year running, Dean Calaz of Kerry London was placed within the top three but gallantly stepped aside in favour of ALEP committee member David Robson of Robsons Surveyors, who was placed second. Jane Pugh, who joins us for a second year as the competition’s only lady golfer, was placed third.
Needing a golf buggy to transport their prizes to their cars, David and Jane also won Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin, respectively.

The novice event was won by Hayley Grantham of SA Law, and the runner-up was Harriet Fleming of Rumball Sedgwick.

At the evening’s dinner and prize-giving, ALEP director, Anna Bailey, thanked Kerry London for its continued support and sponsorship and handed over to Managing Director of Corporate, Commercial and Private Clients (and new Dad!), Dean Calaz.

Other guests at the event included:

Anna Bailey and Clare Grove (ALEP), Alex Greenslade, Louie Burns, Olga Bogdanovic, James Rake (Leasehold Solutions); Steve Jones (Leasehold Valuers); Ian McMellin (John Whiteman & Co.), Caroline Anstis (Piper Smith Watton); Belinda Walkinshaw, Glenda Ferneyhough, Polja Atkins, Gary Dunger (SA Law); Sean Sanders (Thackray Williams); Mark Chick, Chris Macartney (Bishop & Sewell); Miles Brooke-Williams (Matthew Arnold & Baldwin); Ray Robson, Laurence Weill (Robsons); Simon Brook (South East Leasehold); John Midgley (Seddons).
