Sun shines on Bushey Hall golf day

The second ALEP Golf Day was another successful event this time held on the opposite side of the M25 as last year's event, at the very picturesque Bushey Hall Golf Club.

After a somewhat scorching weekend we were all a bit worried when the sun went in on cue the day before the golf.  However the weather proved to be almost perfect with moderate temperatures and the right mix of sun and cloud.  After a welcome drink and a sandwich, 16 experienced golfers headed off in groups of 4 into the distance until they reappeared briefly at the 10th tee for welcome refreshment.

Due to the success at the last golf event of the novice session this was repeated and 10 wannabes had a go at putting and swinging. Our tutor was a very encouraging and fun Gordon Dawson and all received lots of tips and training – watch out Tiger!

After about 4 hours the Stableford golfers began to appear on the horizon and in desperate need of a shower, drink and sustenance although not necessarily in that order!  The dining room overlooked a wonderful view of the course and its water feature.  Our meal of tomato and mozzarella salad followed by roast chicken and chocolate profiteroles was delicious.

The trophy winner of the day was Andrew Raby of Thackray Williams LLP with a Stableford score of 36. Gabriel Alterman of Altermans Solicitors scored a credible 35 and Tony Wilson of Ashley Wilson Solicitors LLP scored 33.  Alex Greenslade, Honorary Secretary of ALEP won the longest drive whilst Rob Crossan of Leasehold Solutions won nearest the pin.

For the novices a bottle of wine went to Jobie Baldwin of Arnold & Baldwin as most promising newcomer and Will Bethune of Bishop & Sewell LLP for most dedication still carrying on practising until dusk!

The feedback on the day has been extremely positive but as always we are aware that golf isn’t everyone’s cup of tee(!) so we would welcome suggestions from members as to other events that they would like to see included.
